The pitch and Bunker

This is for right-hand players. Apologies in advance for lefties. Please do the reverse.

The first major difference between the power swing and the pitch/bunker swing is:

  1. The grip.
  2. The motion of the hands and wrists (used as a unit together in the power hit). In the pitch/bunker, it’s predominantly a right-handed power hit. There is no forearm rotation, only arm lift and hinge of the wrist.
  3. A body motion with less lateral movement and lower body action on the forward swing.
  4. There is no digging action at impact with the leading edge of the golf club head.

I like to think of it as a flip release, the left wrist collapses through impact, and the club head slides across the turf or through the sand.
