The power swing

This is for right-hand players. Apologies, in advance, for lefties. Please do the reverse.

How do you swing to hit a golf ball well? It’s very hard to put it in words. It’s a bit like trying to describe how to run and jump.

What I do know is it’s much easier to learn all the parts of the swing individually, the better you get each part the better your swing becomes,

  1. The grip, stance, posture and aim
  2. The arm, forearm and wrist motion
  3. the body windup and unwind.
  4. Link them all together.

Build a half-swing first and then move to a fuller, more powerful swing when you’re ready.

Note, the full swing has a wider, squarer stance, more arm lift, body coil, and more lateral movement. Thus, more timing is required.

For beginners and juniors, do not attempt to hit the ball off the ground or uneven lies until you have mastered hitting it off the tee. Even on the course, use a tee. Check out Tee-it golf.
